Governor Corzine just made it even more expensive to live in New Jersey. By signing his so-called affordable housing bill you can say hello to new, higher, property taxes to fund this Soviet styled centrally planned boondoggle and goodbye to high income residents, who will flee to less costly states like North Carolina.

Worthy of further examination is the, on the surface, innocuous statement by the Governor justifying driving people out of the state due to insanely high property taxes. Governor Corzine said, “The fact is this legislation holds much promise for the thousands of New Jerseyans who want to stay in their hometown — to work there and raise their families there — but simply can’t afford to live there.”

While it may seem noble to want people to be able to live in their hometown, why is someone not being ableto afford a house is whatever town they want the business of the government and therefore the responsibility of the taxpayers? I would like a Rolls Royce Phantom. Unfortunately I cannot afford one so I will not get one. How is not being able to transport myself to work any less of a constitutional right than housing? When you really think about the rationale behind the court’s Mt. Laurel decision and the reasoning behind affordable housing legislation, you quickly come to the conclusion that people who promote these programs know they are counterproductive. That does not bother them and the program succeeding or failing is of no consequence. What they care about s centralized control by government.
