Some female backers of Senator Hillary Clinton’s campaign still have not jumped aboard the Obama express. The politickernj article describes the attitudes of a collection of Hillary Clinton fundraisers known as the Group. All the male members listed in the article had moved on and supported Obama’s candidacy, but the one hold out was a woman. She was upset over the treatment of Senator Clinton during the primary. I would no be suprised if this scene was playing itself out over the country. It could be an explaination as to why, in a year when althe fundamentals point to a Democratic landslide, Senator Obama holds a narrow lead in the polls over is Republican opponent.
The opportuity here is for Senator McCain to gain ground with disaffected Hillary supporters via his VP selection. The obvious choice is Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. Demonstrating that the GOP eally is the big tent party, and does not brush aside its female candidates, would be an easy way to peel off former Hillary supporters and possibly tip the election.
