The Democratically controlled Congress’ new bright idea is raising the tax on gasoline by ten cents. Apparently this is necessary because congress needs to find a way to fund a $500 million highway bill. Why is government never asked to make a sacrifice? When a family needs to find a way to afford the rising price of gasoline they cut back elsewhere. People don’t have the means to magically increase their income at whim. Government somehow thinks that if they need to make a new investment, government should just raise taxes instead of living within its means. The idea has now taken root in America that whatever money people have is not theirs, but belongs to the centralized government. Salaries are allowances and the paternalistic central government can cut your allowance whenever they feel like because they really know what the people of this country need.
